"Dakota never disappoints!" MaryJanice Davidson, NYT bestselling author.

Wooing a life mate can be hard enough for a wolf, wooing one while under the threat of a curse, even more so.

After being drugged and captured by Animal Control, Max Adams is on Hoboken's doggie death row when his life mate adopts him, takes him home, and promptly names him Fluffy.

Wooing a mate while pretending to be her dog? Nearly impossible.

While JC, in all her new-pet-owner-ness, feeds "Fluffy" vile kibble, dresses him in mortifying dog couture, and schedules to have his manhood removed, Max's human side gets to know JC. Especially in the biblical sense. Hopefully well enough to make her fall madly in love, mate with him under the full moon, and move with him to Cedar Glen to live happily-ever-after forever and ever amen. And fast.

Because the curse comes with a deadline…and the clock is ticking.

USA Today bestselling paranormal romantic comedy author Dakota Cassidy takes you on a laugh-out-loud roller-coaster ride from beginning to end, complete with werewolves, magic users, and shifters. Discover what happens when Max Adams, one strong alpha male, finds himself at the mercy of a woman who thinks he's a big fluffy dog in An American Werewolf In Hoboken. Book 1 in the bestselling Wolf Mates series.

An American Werewolf In Hoboken Paranormal Werewolf Shifters Romantic Comedy Wolf Mates Book 1 eBook Dakota Cassidy

This was really enjoyable from the very beginning. It has wit, charm and some really creative use of the werewolf form. If you enjoy reading about a man who is willing to do anything for love, this is a great book to read.

The characters were well developed and really likable right from the very beginning. The way they interacted made you believe you were reading about your friends starting their relationship and you had a front row seat.

I found myself looking forward to the next books in this series as I was dreading the ending of this book.

An American Werewolf In Hoboken Paranormal Werewolf Shifters Romantic Comedy Wolf Mates Book 1 eBook Dakota Cassidy Reviews

For someone that reads a lot of werewolf fiction, I have to admit I wasn't that thrilled with the actual book itself. I was really excited because the plot sounded funny enough and even interesting. I mean, really. A werewolf in a shelter? How could I resist? That being said, more towards the middle of the book I started to find myself losing interest. The characters came out interesting a bit, but as time goes on, I had trouble really finding more to them. Maybe it's just the first in the series and the author is finding her way to how she wants to write the series. The alpha of the story has his funny moments which is nice to see, but at times felt as if those were far and few between. You do get introduced to an interesting idea to the town surrounding the story and I have to admit I'm a bit interested to see how that was going to play out. But again, I felt like the main characters were lacking in some sort of way. I'm the kind of person that can sit down with a book and when it's good, I'll have it finished in a day and a half. This one, however, sat on my tablet for several days and I just couldn't really bring myself to continue. I did eventually, and it ended pretty okay. I have to give the book a bit of a 3/5 rating. It wasn't bad. There is potential, but I feel that maybe my personal tastes and this first book didn't go well. I may continue to the second book to see if I can connect with the characters.
3-3.5 stars

This was a good story. I liked Max and JC and their story was good but I had a reservation or two. This is the first story I've read by this author but I have a number of other books by her in my to-read list (freebies that I already own) so I'll probably still try one of those in the future.

JC is a hair stylist and partial owner of a salon. She was born and raised in the Hoboken area but her parents moved away a while back. She's happy with her life but hasn't had much luck with men so she's given up on dating and decided to adopt a pet.

Max is a werewolf from a small town in New Jersey. He's the alpha of the pack and his brother (Derek) helps him lead the pack. When his aunt sends him on his life-mate quest, Max goes along with it but doesn't know if he believes in the whole thing or the curse that is supposed to kill him if he doesn't succeed in gaining his lifemate.

Max decides that he's going to travel to Hoboken in wolf form and for some reason stays in that form when he gets to the city. The city animal control workers end up finding Max and tranquilizing him before he can get away. When he wakes up in the pound he's not happy and gets pegged with behavior problems which mean he's going to be put down at the end of the day. Thankfully, JC goes to the pound that day looking for a pet. She had intended to get a cat but when she took a wrong turn and found Max she couldn't stand the thought of not taking him home with her. Since Max only seemed to like JC and behaved with her they decided to let her take him home. Not knowing Max's name, JC ends up naming him Fluffy...much to Max's disgust.

Once JC goes to work the next day, Max is able to transform back to human and he decides to move in across from her so they can get to know each other. He'd intended to let her think "Fluffy" ran away but JC ended up being so distraught at the idea of it that Max ends up helping her try to find Fluffy and eventually pretending to be both her dog and her hunky neighbor that she's starting to date. This charade is helped by the fact that JC thinks Fluffy is too territorial to meet Max right away and she helps keep the 2 separated. Max tries to get JC to fall for him as he's falling for her but he worries about how he's going to tell a human about what he is and have her react well to it. Things go well for them but JC senses that Max is hiding something and has trouble trusting him completely. Unfortunately, Max's fears are well founded because when JC does find out she doesn't react well. There's some drama but thing do get worked out so that Max and JC end the story with a HEA.

This was an enjoyable story. I liked Max...he was a pretty good hero. I liked JC as well (at least in the beginning) but I have to admit that her reaction to Max's secret and the way she handled (or didn't handle) things after the big reveal disappointed me greatly. Overall, the story was pretty good other than my disappointment with JC. I may decide to try more in the series later but I'm not sure at this point. )
A fun read, though I thought the sex scenes were too long and drawn out. I found myself skimming through the erotic scenes; it was.well written, but there's only so many ways to describe earth-shattering sex. Maybe I'm getting old, but I would rather see more about Max's life as Fluffy - that's where the fun is!
